Sharing the hope of the Gospel through GlobalFingerprints

Support Joy Axelson, EFCA missionary, in prayer and financially as she serves vulnerable children around the world through translation and teaching.

How do you keep track of 6,700 kids?

My story began in 2004. My EFCA church asked me to go on a mission trip to the DRC (Congo). I went to help find ways for Congolese churches to fight AIDS. Unbeknownst to me, leaders started the child sponsorship arm of the Evangelical Free Church called GlobalFingerprints in 2006.

Almost 20 years after my initial trip, I raised missionary support to become the Translation Coordinator and Care Worker Trainer for GlobalFingerprints. My job from home (visiting a site once a year) allows all of the other sponsorship sites to function smoothly and it ensures that Christian care workers on the ground receive training in their language.

There are currently about 6,700 children sponsored in 12 different countries including Panama, the DRC (Congo), the Philippines, Brazil, Zambia, Liberia, and Malawi.

This girl from the DRC (Congo) is a great example showing how Christian child sponsorship works with GlobalFingerprints. Unlike many child sponsorship charities, GF only gets sponsors for the most vulnerable kids who really need it, like orphans and the disabled. We partner with local churches onsite.

Photos of Hope

I have had the privilege of serving on mission trips to 5 of the 13 countries served by Global Fingerprints. Wherever these beautiful children are sponsored, I see hope. GF is breaking the cycle of poverty and showing them God’s love in tangible ways. These kids need care workers to share God’s love and make sure each child has the resources they need. In many cases, care worker training needs to be translated into another language. Lately, I’ve been facilitating in-pereson care worker training in Brazil and the Philippines.

“But you only speak French and Spanish”, some might say. However, since I have been a professional translator for over 25 years, I use technology to roughly translate the training materials into other languages.

Alternatively, checks should be made out to EFCA with #2317 Joy Axelson in the memo line. Thank you!
